Writing An Essay

Writing An Essay How can my experiences or ideas be right or wrong? To encourage thoughtful and balanced assessment of readings, many interdisciplinary courses may ask you to submit a reading reflection. Popular in professional programs, like business, nursing, forensics and education, reflection is an important part of making connections between theory and practice. When you are asked to reflect upon experience in a placement, you do not only describe your experience, but you evaluate it based on ideas from class. Abstract concepts can become concrete and real to you when considered within your own experiences, and reflection on your experiences allows you to make plans for improvement. Tell the reader how the information in the paragraph helps you answer the question and how it leads to your conclusion. Your analysis should attempt to persuade the reader that your conclusion is the correct one. The number of pages you write depends on several factors. These elements include the average length of your words and whether your page is single- or double-spaced. In a reflective essay, you need to express your thoughts and emotions about certain events or phenomena. There are over a dozen types of essays, so it’s easy to get confused. However, rest assured, the number is actually more manageable. Essentially there are four major types of essays, with the variations making up the remainder. Parents, does your student need assistance with essays? Sign up for either ourElementary School Essay Writing,Middle School Essay WritingorHigh School Essay Writingcourse for 1-to-1 guidance. Set yourself an allotted amount of time to write and you could end up somewhere you had never considered before. Your thoughts must be stated clearly, so your readers understand exactly what you wanted to say. In most reflective essays, apart from describing what went right, you may also describe what went wrong, or how an experience could have been improved. Usage of one or more quotations in the introduction can make your writing more authoritative. Your introduction must be eye-catching, so the readers become engaged immediately. It can be difficult to know where to begin when writing a critical reflection. First, know that â€" like any other academic piece of writing â€" a reflection requires a narrow focus and strong analysis. The best approach for identifying a focus and for reflective analysis is interrogation. The following offers suggestions for your line of inquiry when developing a reflective response. You may wonder how your professors assess your reflective writing. A common error is to begin too broadly or too far off topic. You should maintain a formal tone, but it is acceptable to write in the first person and to use personal pronouns. One of the most exciting and challenging parts of moving forward through your academic career is the increasing amount of freedom you get to decide what you want to write about. This is the part of your paragraph where you explain to your reader why the evidence supports the point and why that point is relevant to your overall argument. If you look at your topic and nothing stands out to you, then it’s time to start making things stand out. The school curriculum actually makes this quite easy, because we seldom study the typical, run-of-the-mill events, people, books, discoveries and so on. You can apply this principle to anything that strikes you as weird, as annoying, as not quite right, and use that instinct as a springboard to explore a topic properly. You may even be offered the chance to do this a little earlier, where you get given a list of essay titles but also told that you can come up with your own if you’d like. Choosing your own essay title requires you to think about topics (say, Hamlet?) in ways you may not have considered before. When writing a reflective essay, keep a formal tone in mind. Don’t make your essay a free-flowing analysis, including all your unstructured thoughts, insights, and ideas. Compose a mind-map and create an outline which gives a clear direction to your writing.

A Marxist study of Much Ado About Nothing - Literature Essay Samples

Using the Marxist approach to one of Shakespeare’s comedies, Much Ado About Nothing, this essay deals with the unconscious of the text in order to reveal the ideology of the text (as buried in what is not said) so as to discover the hegemony behind the text. The ideology perpetuated in Much Ado About Nothing revolves around, centrally, ensuring the needs and insecurities of the aristocratic – the need for a patriarchal power, the need to reject, stigmatize and dominate the lower class and women. According to Elliot Krieger in A Marxist Study of Shakespeare’s Comedies, there is a â€Å"primary world† and a â€Å"second world† in each of Shakespeare’s comedies. The second world is a location towards which â€Å"the characters, hence the action, move† (1). The primary world is the actual location which the characters originally inhabit, while the second world is where the characters escape to. This second world is an alternative to the pr imary world, a different perspective for the characters to see the objective reality. It represents a state of mind which â€Å"shelters or separates them† in the primary world as the protagonists â€Å"circumscribe all of objective reality with their subjectivity† (3). While the protagonists â€Å"experience the second world as a retreat, withdrawal, or replacement† releasing their private fancy in this second world, others experience the second world â€Å"as a domination, an exhibition of authority† and â€Å"a restriction on their own autonomy† (4). In Much Ado About Nothing, the honorable prince Don Pedro and his illegitimate brother, Don John the Bastard, conjure up a second world of their own respectively. The second world of the former succeeds and sustains itself at the end of the play while that of the latter falls through hopelessly. The success and failure of the two different second worlds demonstrates the fact that â€Å"only a prota gonist who has social degree, and power, can develop a second world in which personal whims organize the social experience of others, in which the needs of the subject’s ego replace the history of the primary world†(4). Hence, this Shakespearean comedy has the sole purpose of unconsciously serving the aristocratic in upholding their ideology, an ideology that has in turn become the hegemony for all in society. After the victory of the war in the primary world, Don Pedro arrives at Messina with his troops of soldiers and soon sets up the first second world in the play, aiming to â€Å"to bring Signior/Benedick and the Lady Beatrice into a mountain of/affection the one with the other† (II. i. 284-287) through the means of deception. Lady Beatrice, with her quick wits and independent character, often directs her wisdom and outspoken defiance against men: â€Å"Would it not grieve a woman to be overmastered with a pierce of valiant dust?†(II. i. 40-41) Her hat red of the opposite sex, which is most intensely overt in her verbal war with Benedick, unconsciously disturbs men and poses a threat to their virility. Beatrice must not have her waywardness left unruled: â€Å"I hope to see you one day fitted with a husband† sighs Lenoato (II. i. 37). Indeed, Don Pedro’s subtle affection for Beatrice can be taken as more than a romantic interlude; it might be an unconscious attempt of the patriarchal ruling class to subjugate the agency of women by marrying them: â€Å"Will you have me, Lady?† (II. i. 252) Beatrice, as an independent and outspoken woman in the primary world, must be objectified and have her freedom forfeited in a man’s hands – if not Don Pedro, then Benedick. This fantasy is to be conducted in the second world – a response to the social condition in the primary world. The taming and exorcizing of the strong woman Beatrice is further expressed in the two instances of gulling. As proposed by Neely, Don Pedro, Leonato and Claudio â€Å"alleviate his (Benedick’s) fears about Beatrice’s aggressiveness by a lengthy, exaggerated tale of her desperate passion for him: ‘Then down upon her knees she falls, weeps, sobs, bears her heart, tears her hair, prays, curses – ‘O sweet Benedick! God give me patience’ (II, iii, 148-50)† (146). Such account â€Å"dovetails perfectly with his fantasy that all women (even the aggressive Beatrice) dote on him† and â€Å"gratifies†, most importantly, the male readers desire to â€Å"picture the disdainful Beatrice in this helpless state† (Neely, 146). The women’s gulling of Beatrice, on the contrary, make only one â€Å"unembroidered mention of Benedick’s love for her, even that is interrogative – ‘But are you sure/That Benedick Beatrice’s’(III, i, 36-7)† (Neely, 146). They â€Å"praise his (Benedick) virtues, not Beatrice†™s† and assault heavily on the pride of Beatrice, â€Å"deflating rather than bolstering her self-esteem† (Neely, 146). These two instances of gulling, which bolster the authenticity of the second world of Don Pedro, manage also to exorcise and suppress the power of women in deflating Beatrice. The second world led by Don Pedro must succeed in replacing the primary world (where Benedick is verbally attacked by Beatrice) because he is the man with the highest social standing in the play. The hegemony reigns in as the subjectivity of Don Pedro becomes the experience of the others – the two instances of gulling edging closer and closer to honesty. The second world of Don Pedro and that of Don John share a foremost function to exorcize women as men harbor an unconscious fear to be subject to women’s sexual power. To Benedick and the male protagonists, love can lead to â€Å"humiliation and loss of potency†¦a castrating torture† (Neely, 144). To d efend themselves, men â€Å"deny its possibility through idealization†, as in the idealization of Hero into a perfect and innocent virgin, â€Å"anticipate it through misogyny, as expressed in the strong Beatrice, or â€Å"transform it, through the motif of cuckoldry† (Neely, 141), as in the second world of Don John. (In the second world of Don John, deception is employed to slander Hero and defame her honor. Its destruction goes as far as providing an unconscious imaginary land for men to relieve their fears about women, suggesting their sadistic desire to attack women so as to affirm their virility. After being publicly shamed, Hero can do nothing but swoon; Beatrice also suffers in great frustration; as she feels the constraints of a woman, she cries: â€Å"Is he not approved in the height a villain, that/hath slandered, scorned, dishonoured my kinswoman? O/that I were a man! †¦O God, that I were a man! I would eat his heart† (IV. i. 212-214). Masculini ty is portrayed as an exclusive power possessed only by the men who could fight back in the face of injustice.)Marriage not only ends the war between Benedick and Beatrice but also maintains the purity of the blood of the upper class. During the time when the play was written, it was unlikely for one, especially a woman of the lower class, to marry one’s social status up. The concept of marriage between members of the same class is unconsciously promoted so that the blood of the lower class would not enter and stain that of the upper class. In granting the consent to Claudio to marry his daughter Hero, Leonato comments, â€Å"his grace hath made the match† (II, i, 232); being asked to marry Don Pedro, Beatrice refuses by asserting that his grace is â€Å"too costly to wear† (II, i, 252); in deceiving Claudio to believe that Don Pedro has wooed Hero for himself, Don John the bastard disapproves of such match as Hero â€Å"is no equal for his birth† (II, i, 144). It is important for one to marry a member of the same league. Marriage, which subjects women to men’s power and control, can also prevent the elevation of social standing of the lower class, which could prevent the lower class’ ‘robbery’ of the fortunes of the upper class. As a â€Å"good soldier to a lady† (I, i, 43), Benedick could marry off with a pretty woman of a lower social standing. He is denied this when Don Pedro ensures his marriage with Beatrice. Though the second world of Don Pedro produces an â€Å"abstract moral condition such as ‘harmony’ or ‘concord’, beneficial to all of the characters’† (Krieger, 5), its success sacrifices the autonomy of Beatrice, the freedom of Benedick and annihilates the possibility of an inter-class marriage which could reward either Beatrice or Benedick. This is also why the second world created by Don John is doomed to fail. Don John is a figure who has no resp ected or recognized social status. As an illegitimate brother to Don Pedro, he is no different from a parasite attached to his princely brother for economic subsistence and respect, as Leonato remarks upon receiving Don John, â€Å"Let me bid you welcome, my lord: being reconciled to/the prince your brother, I owe you all duty† (I, i, 117-118). Don John has Leonato owned his â€Å"all duty† only because he himself has â€Å"reconciled to† Don Pedro the prince. Despite being a ‘prince’, Don John is still referred as the â€Å"bastard†. The failure of his second world, which consists of slandering the virgin Hero, is an assurance that the illegitimate will never succeed in entering the league or upsetting the status quo of the legitimate upper class. The ideology of class distinction remains as people opt for a potential marital partner according to one’s social standing. The presence of Don John also serves as a living warning for the u pper class that any illegitimate intercourse with the lower class may breed a potential malice in the future, that is the devilish Don John in the play. The lower class must be rejected by the upper class, especially in terms of marriage. The repulsion of inter-class marriage is further testified in Margaret being one of the accomplices of this valiancy in disgracing Hero. As the chamber-maid of Hero, Margaret pretends to be Hero and gets tempted by Borachio, with whom she has sex. Her lust is a testimony to the immorality of the lower class, who cannot command their own desires. In Shakespeares era, a woman with her honor lost would lose all her social standing. Compared to the public shaming of Hero, the absence of a punishment to Margaret’s loss of honor might also reflect the insignificance of the lower class. The lower class is free to do whatever they want as they are left in the gutter, while the upper class must watch their code of behavior carefully so as not to fall into depravity. The promiscuity of Margaret also reinforces the depraved nature of the lower class which justifies the impossibility of an inter-class marriage which would otherwise pollute the blood of the upper class. The lower class is exorcised as it is presented to be depraved while the upper class remains virtuous in the purity of Hero. The second world of Don John fails soon after the truth about the gulling is made known to Leonato. Although the gulling is brought to light by Dogberry the policeman of the middle class, Don Pedro is the one who derives valuable answers from the villain Borachio to discover the truth of the villainy. With fluent articulation, Don Pedro forms the significant question, â€Å"Who have you offended, masters, that you are thus/bound to your answer? whats your offence?† (V. i. 168-169) while Dogberry, the â€Å"learned constable†¦too cunning to be understood† (V. i. 168-169) fails to retrieve meaningful answers in his previous ins tances of interrogation due to his eccentric and wry use of language. His function works no more than exercising the labor to arrest and transfer the villain to the authority. Under arrest, Borachio only makes his confession to Don Pedro as he recounts, â€Å"Sweet prince, let me go no farther to mine answer:†¦I have/deceived even your very eyes: what your wisdoms/could not discover, these shallow fools have brought/to light† (V. i. 171-176). The ideology that aristocratic class holds the key to settling disputes and injustice permeates and they hold the legitimacy to rule the community. Contrary to a traditional reading of the play, the Marxist approach involves a close analysis of the minor character Don Pedro and also the absence of certain events, such as the punishment of Margaret, as well as the displaced rage of Beatrice. The â€Å"development of a second world† in Shakespearean comedies manifests aristocratic privilege. In fact, the â€Å"second world fun ctions as an ideological system† and â€Å"hide[s] class struggle† (Kriger, 6). The struggle presented in the play is the disturbed power relation between men and women, upper class and lower class. The success of the second world of Don Pedro, who belongs to the aristocratic, replaces the social conditions of the primary world which is previously upset by the dominance of Beatrice and the intrusion of Don John the bastard. The hegemony, which is the second world, is set up by Don Pedro and is privileged to remain as the objective reality in the new primary world of both the aristocratic and the lower class. Fiscal Strategy and Outlook Budget.

Question: Discuss about the Fiscal Strategy and Outlook Budget. Answer: Introduction: Fiscal policy is a fundamental instrument in the modern economy. Typically, fiscal policy pertains to the means by which the government regulates the levels of tax rates and public expenditure to control the aggregate economy. Often, the policy is used together with monetary policy to stabilize the economy. Primarily, the policy is implemented with the aim of stabilizing economic growth, maintaining low inflation levels and stimulating economic growth during times of recession. Thus, the policy may be used to either stimulate economic growth during times of recession or slow down economic activity in times of inflation. It is imperative to note that fiscal policy may also be utilized to remove deflationary gaps in the economy. Deflationary gaps are common during times of recession. It is the difference between the output level of full employment and actual output. High deflationary gaps indicate the existence of high levels of unemployment and underutilization of resources in the economy. Commonly, the gap is caused by a fall in the level of aggregate demand, exports, and investments within the economy. Subsequently, its existence in the economy may bring about an increase in the joblessness, deflation and low economic growth in the economy (Carmignani, 2013). In this regard, the government implements expansionary fiscal policies to reduce the deflationary gap and stimulate economic activity in the country. Notably, during recession, the level of economic activity in limited. Thus, expansionary fiscal policy is used to enhance the aggregate demand. For this reason, the government either increases its level of spending or introduces tax cuts. Lower tax rates will increase the level of disposable income available for firms and households to spend on consumption goods. In turn, this will bring about an increase in consumer spending, thereby a rise in total demand. An upturn in demand would also lead to a rise in employment opportunities, thereby reducing the deflationary gap. Mainly, this is because firms will be forced to hire more workers to meet the new demand. Overall, an expansionary fiscal policy helps to stimulate economic activity and enhance growth. Graphical representation of the deflationary gap On the other hand, during inflationary periods, the level of economic activity is high, and prices are also high. Consequently, the government is forced to utilize contractionary fiscal policy tools to slow down the economic activity in the country. In this regard, the government may reduce its spending or increase the taxation levels in the country. In turn, this causes a decline in the level of economic activity in the aggregate economy. Particularly, this is because an increase in taxation reduces the available disposable income for households and reduces after-tax profits for firms. In turn, both agents reduce their level of consumption spending. At times, firms are forced to lay off some workers, thereby increasing the level of unemployment. Eventually, this results in reduced economic activity, thereby bringing the level of inflation down. For a long time now, the Australian government has been spending beyond its means. For this reason, the country has been experiencing significant budget deficits. Typically, the government budget is a detailed report of the revenues received and payments made by the government. Thus, a budget deficit arises when the total public expenditure exceeds the revenue collected through taxes and other fees. Previously, the Australian government purposed to bring the nations budget to a surplus in 2019-20. However, this trajectory has since been revised to 2020-21. The countrys current fiscal position does not warrant for a budget surplus (Payne Hall, 2017). Instead, the economy is characterized by continued deficits. In 2015, the country recorded a deficit of approximately 2.4 percent of the economys GDP. The average level of government budget between 1979 and 2015 is -0.94 percent of the countrys GDP. With respect to this period, the highest level of government budget achieved in Australia was recorded in 2000 at 2 percent of the overall GDP. In contrast, the lowest level of government budget was achieved in 2010, at -4.2 percent of the GDP. Within the same time frame, the highest level of government debt to GDP was an all-time high of 36.80 percent, whereas the lowest is 9.70 percent. Although the Australian economy is strong, the economy is surviving on an unsustainable structural deficit. Predominantly, this deficit is an aftermath of irresponsible spending policies of the government. This has led to a massive accumulation of public sector debt. For this reason, policies should be instigated to provide viable solutions to the problem both in the immediate term and in the long run. Thus, policy must be implemented to facilitate reforms in the economy (Pettinger, 2016). In this regard, the Australian government may utilize a combination of policies to reduce the continued budget deficit by 2020-21. First, the Australian government can cut its public spending to reduce the degree of its fiscal debt. Primarily, this is one of the most effective methods of reducing the government debt by causing a reduction in the amount payable as debt. Markedly, Canada introduced spending cuts in the 1990s and realized massive declines in its level of budget deficits (Harrison, 2011). In addition, the country recorded substantial increases in the level of economic growth (Congressional Budget Office, 2011). Consequently, this proved that cutting government expenditure may be a successful means to reduce budget deficits. Secondly, the government may increase the taxation rates in the country. Basically, an increase in the level of taxation will translate to an increase in government revenue. In turn, this would help in offsetting the countrys deficit. In addition, the government may reduce its budget deficits by enhancing the level of economic growth in the country (Lewis, 2014). If the economy grows, the level of tax revenue will increase without even raising the taxes. Subsequently, firms will pay more corporate taxes, workers will pay more income taxes, and consumers will pay more in VAT. Over time, the level of the budget deficit will decline. The government may also opt for bailout or default (Pettinger, 2016). When compared to other economies of the OECD, the Australian budget deficit is relatively small (OECD, 2016). Since 2007, Australia has been in the middle of the OECD pack. Mainly, this is attributed to the 4.4 percent point deterioration in the countrys budget balance to GDP ratio (Collins, 2014). According to the MYEFO statement, the Australian budget deficit increased to $37.4 billion. Regardless of this deficit, there was a $2.3 billion decline in the projection deficit for 2015-16 (Woodley Anderson, 2015). It is imperative to note that various factors have contributed to these deteriorations. First, the regime has dedicated around $3.5 billion in additional spending to cater for the innovation package, resettlement of the Syrian refugees, pharmaceutical subsidies and additional road funding (Woodley Anderson, 2015). Regardless of the immense expenditures, the government is purported to make new savings to offset the expenditures. Predominantly, the government aims at making significant savings in its budget. For instance, the government is expected to save approximately $2 billion over a four-year period from people who incorrectly claim welfare payments from the government. Likewise, it will save $650 million over four years by reducing incentives for MRI service and dealing away with incentives for pathology services (Woodley Anderson, 2015). Furthermore, the government intends to cut down spending in health workforce programs. By so doing, it will be able to save around $595 million over a four-year period. What is more, the government purposes to reduce its spending on aged care services by 472 million over a three-year period. Moreover, child care subsidies would be reduced by approximately $441 million, especially from households that earn more than $250,000 (Woodley Anderson, 2015). By and large, these changes are bound to offset the huge spending and thereby reduce the overall budget deficit. There are various consequences that may arise from reductions in the level of government spending. Specifically, instigating spending cuts in the economy is a form of contractionary fiscal policy. Therefore, the level of aggregate demand in the economy is expected to decline substantially. Mainly, this is because there is a reduced demand for products and services by the government. In turn, this will bring about a slowdown in the level of economic activity in the aggregate economy. A decline in aggregate demand may force firms to reduce their production capacity. Thus, some employees will be laid off from the workforce. Consequently, the rate of unemployment in the country will rise. It is, therefore, imperative to note that although the implementation of spending cuts may bring about declines in the countrys budget deficit, the policy may lead to other significant problems in the economy. High unemployment rates and slow economic growth may arise as a consequence. According to the 2016-17 MYEFO statement, the Australian economy continues to switch from the investment stage to the later stages of the mining boom. As a result, economic growth is expected to increase over the forecast period. In this financial year, the real GDP is expected to expand by about 2 percent. In the same way, economic growth is forecasted to increase to 2.75 percent in 2017-18 (Australian Government, 2017). On the other hand, the cash shortfall is projected to drop from $36.5 billion in 2016-17 to approximately $10 billion in 2019-2020 (Australian Government, 2017). In addition, household consumption and exports are predicted to enhance growth. Non-mining business investment is expected to increase over time. Then again, the level of employment is expected to drop from 1.9 percent in 2015-16 to around 1.25 percent in 2016-17 (Australian Government, 2017). Projections indicate that this rate is further expected to increase to about 1.5 percent. Conversely, the unemployment levels in the country are projected to reduce significantly. As such, the rate is expected to drop from 5.7 percent in 2015-16 to 5.5 percent in 2016-17. The figure is predicted to remain constant in 2017-18 before dropping further to 5.25 percent in the following year. Afterward, the level of unemployment is predicted to remain constant at 5.25 percent (Australian Government,2017). Furthermore, the countrys level of inflation is expected to increase over time. Specifically, the degree of consumer price index is projected to rise from 1.0 percent in 2015-16 to around 1.75 percent in 2016-17. In 2017-18, the figure is expected to further rise to about 2 percent (Australian Government, 2017). In the same way, the wage price index is projected to rise from 2.1 percent to 2.25 percent between 2015-16 and 2016-17. In the following years, the figure is projected to further rise. The government is still committed to increasing employment opportunities, investment, and growth in the country. For this reason, it has implemented various structural changes in the level of its spending and saving to reduce the level of budget deficit in the country. First, the government purposed to reduce its spending on the social welfare system by ensuring that only persons with genuine need receive government support. This is expected to reduce the deficit by $2.1 billion. In addition, the government purposes to scrap off the Asset Recycling Fund of 2014-15 (Payne Hall, 2017). It also intends to introduce new vocational education and training loans. In turn, this would reduce government debt by around $25 billion within a ten year period. Largely, the budget is still expected to yield a surplus in 2020-21 (Australian Government, 2017). Fiscal policy is a vital policy instrument in the modern economy. The implementation of the policy in a modern economy results in a wide range of effects on the economy. The policy is useful in regulating the level of economic activity in the aggregate economy (Amadeo, 2016). For this reason, there are various advantages associated with the use of this instrument as a means to stimulate or slow down economic activity in the aggregate economy. One major strength of the policy is that it can be used by the government to direct spending to specific projects, sectors, and regions. Thus, unlike monetary policy which is general in nature, fiscal policy can be utilized to stimulate the sectors of the economy that are perceived to require stimulation. Besides, the effects of the policy can be realized within a short time period, and the results achieved much quicker as compared to other policies. Furthermore, this policy instrument can easily be implemented to discourage the existence of negative externalities within the economy. Explicitly, the government may use taxation to discourage polluters and firms that overexploit natural resources (Use of Fiscal, n.d.). In turn, this helps in reducing negative effects on the environment as well as generate additional government revenue. As well, the policy can be used to reduce the gap between the poor and the rich. As such, the government may impose different tax rates on different levels of income, thereby creating more burden on the rich while reducing the tax obligations of the poor. Most importantly, fiscal policies have the power to reduce the level of a countrys budget deficit, thereby reducing the economic effects associated with high public debt (European Central Bank, 2005). Additionally, the expansionary tool of the policy has the capacity to reduce the level of unemployment in the country. Also, fiscal policy can substantially influence the level of national income and hence has an immediate effect on the economy. Despite the numerous strengths associated with the use of the policy, there are various weaknesses also linked to its use. One major disadvantage of the policy is that it is relatively inflexible. Principally, changes in the level of government expenditure or tax rates may take a long period of time. Often, the lags arise due to moral and political implications in the process. The other weakness pertains to the fact that the use of fiscal policy to solve one macroeconomic problem may lead to the creation of another challenge in the economy. For instance, stimulating the level of aggregate demand in a bid to increase employment opportunities may bring about increased inflation in the economy. Mainly, this is due to the fact that growth in demand brings about a rise in the general price levels within the country. What is more, implementation of fiscal policy may result in a conflict of objectives in the economy. As such, the combination of contractionary and expansionary fiscal policy within the economy leads to a conflict of objectives. Besides, the implementation of fiscal policy tools such as taxation may be disapproved by the residents of the country. Increasing the rates of taxation in the economy may create an unnecessary burden on the taxpayers and is thus unpopular among households and firms. In addition, it may be politically dangerous to implement such policies. Regardless of its weakness, the use of fiscal policy to control the aggregate economy has significant benefits to the Australian economy. References The Fiscal Strategy and Outlook. Tornados Essay Example For Students

Tornados Essay Dorothy lived with her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry on a small farm in Kansas. Their tiny house stood alone on a large, flat prairie. Dorothy had only one friend, her dog Toto. He was a small black dog who loved to jump and play. One day while Dorothy and Toto were playing, they heard the awful sound of a storm. The wind roared and the dust blew smoky circles in the air. Dorothy was frightened. Uncle Henry stopped working and shouted, Theres a cyclone coming, run for the cellar! The Wizard of Oz By: Frank Baum (1939). Tornados remain a frightening fact of life for those of us in the Midwest. These powerful acts of nature can wreak havoc on everything in its path of destruction. Tornado, twister, funnel, and cyclone: all are synonyms for the awesome force, which has intrigued and puzzled scientists for years. We will write a custom essay on Tornados specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now A tornado is the most violent of all storms. It is a violent rotating column of air extending from within a thundercloud or a developing thundercloud down to ground level. Tornados can vary in diameter from tens of meters to about two kilometers with an average diameter of approximately 50 meters. In the northern hemisphere, winds of the tornado generally blow counterclockwise around a center of extremely low atmospheric pressure. In the majority of tornadoes that occur in the southern hemisphere, winds blow clockwise. The peak wind speeds can range from 75 mph to almost 300 mph. Some of the more powerful tornados can lift cattle, cars, and even mobile homes. A tornado becomes visible when a condensation funnel made of water vapor forms in very low pressures. It also becomes visible when the tornado lifts dust, dirt, and debris upward from the ground. Most tornados are just small, intense cyclones. The term cyclone comes from the Greek word circle. Sometimes, in very rare occasions, the winds whirl in the direction opposite of a cyclone. For the most part, tornados have damage path less than 500 meters wide, move at less then 35 miles per hour, and last only a few minutes. The very violent tornados may reach up to one mile in diameter, travel at speeds up to 60 miles per hour, and blow for more than an hour. Many tornados, including the very strong ones develop from a special type of thunderstorm that is known as a supercell. A supercell is a long-lived, rotating thunderstorm that is up to 16 kilometers in diameter that may last several hours, travel hundreds and hundreds of miles, and produce many tornados. Each supercell has the potential to spawn a tornado or a sequence of tornados. For the most part, scientists generally agree that the first stage in the formation of a tornado is an interaction between the storm updraft and the winds. An updraft is a current of warm moist air that rises upward through the thunderstorm. The updraft interacts with the winds, which has to change with the height in favorable ways for the interaction to occur. This type of interaction causes the updraft to rotate at the middle levels of the atmosphere. The rotating updraft, which is also known as a mesocyclone, stabilizes the thunderstorm and gives it its long-lived supercell characteristics. The next sta ge is the development of a current of cooler air that moves in a downward direction on the backside of the storm, known as a rear-flank downdraft. The speed of the downdraft increases and the airdrops to the ground rapidly where it fans out at speeds that can go over 100 miles per hour. In 1971, Theodore Fujita developed a classification system based on the damage done to manmade structures. His Fujita-scale classification system or the F-scale ranks a tornado as weak (F1 and F2), strong (F2 and F3) or violent (F4 and F5). The F-scale is used only in places where manmade structures exist. The United States has the highest average number of tornados a year in the world with about 800 per year. Most of theses storms occur in a stretch of land known as Tornado Alley, which extends across the Midwestern and Southern states, especially Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Iowa, and Kansas. Australia ranks second in the number of twisters a year. The tornado prime time is spring and early summer in the late afternoon and early evening. .ue3b0b9d47c0e958698e01a0c3ff1cccf , .ue3b0b9d47c0e958698e01a0c3ff1cccf .postImageUrl , .ue3b0b9d47c0e958698e01a0c3ff1cccf .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ue3b0b9d47c0e958698e01a0c3ff1cccf , .ue3b0b9d47c0e958698e01a0c3ff1cccf:hover , .ue3b0b9d47c0e958698e01a0c3ff1cccf:visited , .ue3b0b9d47c0e958698e01a0c3ff1cccf:active { border:0!important; } .ue3b0b9d47c0e958698e01a0c3ff1cccf .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ue3b0b9d47c0e958698e01a0c3ff1cccf { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ue3b0b9d47c0e958698e01a0c3ff1cccf:active , .ue3b0b9d47c0e958698e01a0c3ff1cccf:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ue3b0b9d47c0e958698e01a0c3ff1cccf .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ue3b0b9d47c0e958698e01a0c3ff1cccf .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ue3b0b9d47c0e958698e01a0c3ff1cccf .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ue3b0b9d47c0e958698e01a0c3ff1cccf .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ue3b0b9d47c0e958698e01a0c3ff1cccf:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ue3b0b9d47c0e958698e01a0c3ff1cccf .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ue3b0b9d47c0e958698e01a0c3ff1cccf .ue3b0b9d47c0e958698e01a0c3ff1cccf-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ue3b0b9d47c0e958698e01a0c3ff1cccf:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Sorry for Partyin' EssayMeteorologists can predict possible severe weather from 12 to 48 hours in advance. They make forecasts using weather balloons, satellites, and conventional weather radar. Computers also help meteorologists analyze the data and recognize when conditions favor the formation of thunderstorms. In the U.S., the National Weather Service issues tornado watches when conditions in the atmosphere promote the formation of tornados and they issue tornado warnings if someone actually sees a funnel cloud. It is difficult for scientists to study tornados because they form and vanish quickly and occupy just a small area. One other problem is that scientists do not exactly know what causes tornados, so they cannot get to the right place and the right time to gather data. One way that technology advancements help scientists is they can make computer models of thunderstorms and tornados. Tornado safety is important to minimizing loss of life and injury. During a tornado, seek shelter in an underground structure, such as a basement, subway station, or a parking garage. Stay away from windows and upper stories of buildings. If you are in a car, try to get out by driving at a right angle to the path of the tornado. If you cant read shelter or get out of the tornados path, lay flat ditch or other hollow place. Tornados are very dangerous and should always be taken seriously. The tornado chasing should be left up to the professionals. Appropriate precautions need to be taken during a tornado warning. Dont be swept away like Toto and Dorothy. Category: Science
